The level of Democracy enjoyed by the average citizen in the world, in 2022, has fallen to 1986 levels. The last 35 years of democratic advances are now eradicated. The number of countries experiencing episodes of autocratization is increasing rapidly: from 14 in 2002 to 42.5 at the end of 2022. For the first time in more than two decades, there are more closed autocracies than democracies. Autocratization is creating a balance of power.

There is also no room for freedom of expression, freedom of association and free elections. This classification would include dictatorships such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Cuba, Afghanistan, North Korea and China. Less than half of the world's population lives under some type of democratic regime, according to publications.

The result of research on publications from various media coincides with the situation that has worsened across the planet, as the percentage was 49.5% in 2020 and fell to 45.9% last year, being a “decrease significant.” Research shows that only 9% of the world's population lives in a Democracy. “Substantially, more than a third of the world's population (37.1%) lives under an authoritarian regime; notes the publication.
